History and Present of Raja Bazar, Patna
Historical Background
Raja Bazar, one of the most bustling areas in Patna, has evolved significantly over the decades. The locality derives its name from its historical roots, possibly linked to the estates or business holdings of erstwhile landowners (zamindars) who once dominated the region. In earlier times, this area was primarily an agricultural and semi-urban region with scattered settlements.
During the mid-20th century, Patna began expanding beyond its traditional centers like Gandhi Maidan, Ashok Rajpath, and Kankarbagh. The development of Raja Bazar coincided with the infrastructural advancements in the city, leading to the gradual establishment of markets, residential colonies, and educational institutions. By the late 20th century, the locality had transformed into a crucial commercial and residential hub.
